A brand sponsoring a sporting event is not a new idea, but for a marketing agency, which generally acts as a facilitator between brands and consumers, to do so, is practically unheard of. Digital marketing agency, iProspect Communicate2, sponsored the inaugural session of the Mumbai Super league for table tennis.

iProspect Communicate2, the digital marketing agency from the Dentsu Aegis Network, was the title sponsor of the Mumbai Super League - Table Tennis Championship, recently organised by the Mumbai City District Table Tennis Association and the Mumbai Suburban District Table Tennis Association.

The eight-team franchise league was restricted for players from Mumbai city and Mumbai suburbs, and was played at the Khar Gymkhana in suburban Mumbai. The whole idea behind the league was to rejuvenate interest in the sport in Mumbai since the city had once produced many national and international players.

With tourneys such as the Indian Premiere League, the International Premier Tennis League and the Indian Hockey League readily grabbing consumer attention, brands have been eagerly flocking to associate with these sporting activities. The agency decided it wanted to grab a share of the eyeballs with its association.

Moreover, iProspect Communicate2 had recently bagged four awards at the India Digital Media Awards for their excellence in strategising digital media activities.

iProspect Communicate2 CEO Vivek Bhargava is a former Uttar Pradesh State player, and a strong supporter of the sport. "Table tennis was a prospective career for me when I was introduced to the game and started winning titles during my early teen years. But I noticed that people were not even aware of who the world table tennis champion was, or even the names of top national players in TT," he said. The association with the sport aims to rectify that.
