Manohar Lal Khattar has been elected as the new Chief Minister of Haryana and leader of the BJP Legislature Party in the State.
The BJP’s newly elected MLAs called a meeting here today to elect their legislature party leader.
The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu and party Vice-President Dinesh Sharma, appointed observers by the BJP’s Parliamentary Board for deciding the name of the Haryana Chief Minister.
First-time MLA Manohar Lal Khattar was the front-runner for the post of Chief Minister of Haryana where BJP will rule for the first time ever since the formation of the State in 1966.
60-year-old Khattar is stated to be close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP chief Amit Shah. Khattar, a Punjabi, had worked as a RSS Pracharak for 40 years.
In the recent Haryana Assembly elections, the saffron party won 47 seats, while the INLD won 19, INC 15, HJC-BL two, BSP and SAD bagged one seat each, while Independents got five.
