Badged simply as “Sport”, the hatchback is on display at the Tata Motors stall at the Auto Expo in Greater Noida. This is the first vehicle to be developed by Tata Motors’ partnership with Coimbatore-based Jayem Automotives.
Based on Tata Motors’ Bolt, the Sport, a sporty hatchback, has a modified Revotron 1.2-litre, turbocharged petrol engine with a higher power and torque. The car — whose name is yet to be decided — is expected to be launched this year.
Tata Motors has partnered with Jayem for developing performance and special vehicles.
J Anand, Managing Director, Jayem Automotives, is elated when he talks to BusinessLine over telephone about the vehicle. “We have enhanced the engine performance, upgraded the suspension, improved the brakes, wheels and tyres. When you equip the car to go faster, you have to ensure that it handles well,” said the former race driver. The whole package has to look good, he added.
The partnership will extend to other vehicles and a lot of exciting cars are on their way, said Anand, without divulging any details. A Tata Motors press release at the Auto Expo said: “The car carries an attitude that is embedded in its aspects of design and driving dynamics, and will deliver the next level of personalisation with performance to its customers.”
The hatchback comes with a sporty new front grille with air dam, new performance oriented front and rear bumper with air vents on fender, high-flow exhaust system and an aerodynamic body kit with accessorised 17-inch alloy wheels, said to the press release.
