Spot turmeric prices at Erode markets decreased on Friday due to inferior quality arrivals. Only fifty per cent stock of turmeric was sold on Friday.

“Many traders are having adequate stock of turmeric with them. Further only medium variety turmeric are arriving for sale, so the traders quoting are decreased price and buying few stocks,” said RKV Ravishankar, President, Erode Turmeric Merchants Association.

He said that on Friday 8,700 bags of turmeric arrived for sale. The price of the commodity decreased by ₹200 a quintal and that of the Salem root variety by ₹300.

At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹5,437-8,560 a quintal; the root variety ₹5,263-7,389.

Salem Turmeric: The finger variety fetched ₹7,399-9,567 and the root variety ₹7,037-7,809. Of the arrival of 2,125 bags, 870 were sold.

At the Regulated Market Committee, the finger turmeric went for ₹7,209-8,685; the root variety ₹7,137-8,011. Of the 795 bags on sale, 526 were traded.

At the Erode Cooperative Marketing Society, the finger turmeric was sold at ₹7,289-8,299; the root variety ₹7,118-7,739. All the 1,630 bags found takers.
