Ghanshyam Singh has taken charge as the new general manager, Eastern Railway. He took charge from Monday (July 25).
Singh is a 1979 batch officer of the Indian Railway Service of Electrical Engineering (IRSEE).
Prior to this, he was working as Chief Electrical Engineer, Northern Railway.
Singh has also worked in various other important posts at Railway Board level and in Indian Railways as General Manager of RITES; Executive Director (Efficiency & Research), Railway Board, New Delhi; Divisional Railway Manager, Bhopal.
While working as the chief electrical engineer in Eastern Railway, Singh had developed a methodology for power procurement from the private producers. Later it became the order of the day and was adopted by Railway Board for implementation all over Indian Railways.
He has also credited to have designed the high voltage distribution system for rural electrification in Uttarakhand.
Singh has been awarded twice by Railway Minister for his outstanding service.
