The Union Government is ready with a plan of providing affordable housing to poor in the next few years, according to Prakash Javdekar, Union Minister of State for Environment and Forest.
Highlighting the achievements of the Modi Government in the last one year at a press conference in Mangaluru on Thursday, he said the Government had introduced schemes such as Jan Dhan Yojana and social security schemes aimed at the welfare of poor.
Continuing with this, the Government is ready with a plan of providing affordable housing to around four crore poor in rural areas and two crore in urban areas. “We will achieve this in the next six years. It is a biggest housing programme ever launched in the world,” Javdekar said.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s appeal to the people to relinquish LPG subsidy when they can afford to do without it, he said more than 5 lakh people have responded positively for this appeal. Now SMSs are being sent to those people thanking them for this gesture.
Terming it as an entirely a new model of governance, he said that the government is ensuring public participation in governance. That is a major thrust.
