Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) on Thursday said it will continue to sell the older Grand i10 and compact sedan Xcent for taxi aggregators, even though it has launched the newer versions of both.

“The old Grand i10 and old Xcent will continue to be produced for institutional and cab aggregators. Right now ride sharing business demands more on the compact segment than the premium segment,” YK Koo, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, told reporters on the sidelines of the launch of the new Xcent here.

He said 7-10 per cent of the company’s total domestic sales go into such institutional sales every month, adding that more than 80 per cent of ride sharing business was in the compact segment, which is why the company’s cars were being offered.

The company sold 44,757 vehicles in March this year in the domestic market. For the whole year (2016-17), it had sold a total of 5,09,707 units in the domestic market.

With the advent of the aggregator companies, such as Uber, Ola, Myles and Zoomcar, the taxi segment is a growing business for many manufacturers. For instance, Maruti Suzuki India sells a good share of its compact car WagonR and compact sedan Dzire to such companies from its overall sales.

Meanwhile, HMIL has launched the all-new Xcent compact sedan priced between ₹5.38 lakh and ₹8.41 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). While the petrol version (1.2-litre Kappa Dual VTVT) is priced between ₹5.38 lakh and ₹7.10 lakh, the diesel variant (1.2-litre U2 CRDi) is priced at ₹6.28-₹8.42 lakh (all ex-showroom, Delhi).

It said the new Xcent offers some of the first-in-segment features such as 7.0 touch screen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity - Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror Link.

For safety and convenience, it has reinforced body structure and features like dual airbags (standard), anti-lock braking system (ABS), impact sensing auto door unlock, rear defogger, reverse parking sensors and rear parking camera with display and fully automatic temperature control along with rear AC vents.
