Philips aims to put India among its top eight markets globally in the next few years in the consumer lifestyle business.

“Consumer lifestyle business has become the connect to youth and families for Philips India…we are now catering to their end-to-end needs, whether it is personal care, hair care, coffee machines or kitchen appliances, among others. We are constantly looking at India-specific consumer insights before we launch our products.” ADA Ratnam, President, Consumer Lifestyle, Philips India told Business Line .

Ratnam said that the company’s consumer lifestyle business had been growing aggressively in all the categories over the last two years.

Talking about manufacturing, Ratnam said, “Nearly 85 per cent of the current garment care business is made in India, while nearly 60 per cent of the kitchen appliance business is made in India. This shows Philips has faith in India and our manufacturing set up in the country.”

Local manufacture

The company will also focus on increasing local manufacturing of its beauty and hair care products. It is also exploring the option of making India a manufacturing hub for its entire consumer lifestyle business with an eye on exports. In the past six months, Philips Consumer Lifestyle business has forayed into two new categories — indoor air-purifiers and pain relief solutions. The company on Wednesday launched PerfectCare Aqua, steam generator iron priced at ₹23,495. Gulbahaar Taurani, Director-Marketing and Business Head, Domestic Appliances, Philip India, said, “Indian consumers are increasingly moving from dry irons to steam irons and are willing to invest in more advanced technology.
